here we go...

This is a little acrylic painting that I did today to warm up and get my brushes wet. I am basing my next piece on the rocket sunset with a similar feel of a surreal short moment when the sun reflects on the clouds creating overwhelming color interactions. The clean vibrant colors will become the background when a bold interruption by this dark blocked footprint takes over the composition.

practice...

just painting a sunset. I am trying to create a surreal mood to place a rocket in. I want to have an environment for these drawings.

hello there

Just checking in...I started a painting of a sunset sky. I did it on a board and already it has warped because it isnt meant for paint and I knew that it wouldnt be something precious. I was playing around with colors and mood. Yesterday I bought a canvas so now the fun begins...

another rocket sketch

I am studying each rocket and creating little drawings right now. Each one seems to evoke emotion for me and as I talk to my colleagues I am able to learn how they feel about them as well. I invite everyone to give me feedback...COME ON help a girl out!!! I am enjoying the direction I am headed from the organism drawings to where I am at now with the rockets. I see similarities as well as differences from my last body of work compared to my current series.

we shall see...

So instead of having a never ending debate with myself, I chose to put pencil to paper. I did some simplified drawings in my sketchbook of the rockets and how the rusted metal curls out after the explosion. It is a very emotional subject matter for me and feel like  the only way to release it is to work it out on paper. After I did a few little drawings, I noticed that I can focus on the line work, dynamism and overall design rather than the political aspect. Although no matter what I choose, I understand that these drawing will without a doubt have personal and political meaning because of the subject. Here are some drawings  for you viewing pleasure kiddies...

http://www.sderotmovie.com/

this is one of the many pictures I took at the station. I am currently manipulating them on photoshop to see what I can come up with
this is just one example of the stones...

moving right along...

So all my ideas are coming together for my third body of work. After my trip to Israel my concept has morphed and developed and now I am excited to apply these new inspirations. While walking through the town and thousand year old cobble stone paths, I concentrated on the patterns created by the stones interacting with one another. I took many photos of the walls and buildings that caught my eye. The way the shapes overlay and interact remind me of my previous organism drawings. Although I am very interested in creating drawings based on my observations, I am also haunted by another life changing experience. I went to Sderot where there are rockets fired over the Gaza border daily. I saw the town and went to the police station where they keep the fired rockets which are all labeled and stacked. I have amazing pictures of these rockets and the way they curl after being shot from so far with such intense heat. I feel very strongly about the craziness that is going on over there with terror being dealt with everyday. There are bomb shelters every 15 seconds from one another and sirens that echo through the air with "Code Red" warnings when rockets are sensed. I am sorting through and figuring out what I want to do. Do I want to focus on the stone work and keep it simple and aesthetically interesting or do I want to attack this very emotional issue of terror at the Gaza strip??? ANY THOUGHTS???

Local Artist in Tsfat Israel

This was one of the local artists I met during my journey. These artists paint in their studios as people walk by the cobblestone roads. I was able to spend time talking with the artists and embrace the differences and similarities as an artist in America as opposed to Israel.

BACK TO REALITY

I am back to America after a life changing experience traveling in Israel. I dropped my camera half way through the trip so unfortunetley I am behind in posting pictures. My large drawing is at it's last stage and I am anxious to absorb everyone's input and move on to the next project. I have been greatlly impacted by some of the experiences in Israel and hope to venture onto new "land" in this next piece...

Welcome to my blog!

Entry #1 >>My site will be a way for me to communicate as an artist. I will use my blog as a tool to record anything from my thoughts and ideas to my works in progress. As a painter, my art is always progressing and evolving with each decision I make. I hope this blog will be a learning experience because everything I do is an attempt to better myself.
